Three Indoor Outings Around Murfreesboro, Smyrna and Nashville Worth Planning Around
A fun Saturday can start with one good plan. Choose the activity everyone is excited about, work out the full cost, and leave enough room to enjoy it. These three indoor options offer different kinds of fun around Middle Tennessee.
For readers around Murfreesboro and ZIP 37129, start with the closest option that fits your group. Smyrna and Nashville offer alternatives when you want a change of scene. Choose one destination; this is not a three-stop itinerary.
Murfreesboro: bowling with a simple meal plan
Murfreesboro Strike & Spare is at 1720 Old Fort Parkway, Suite 2002, in 37129. Its bowling page lists bumpers, lightweight balls and smaller shoe sizes. The on-site 300 Room Bar & Grill makes it possible to keep bowling and food in one place.
The posted Saturday rate is $36 per lane per hour, plus $5 rental shoes per bowler, with tax extra. Four bowlers renting shoes for one hour would therefore start at $56 before tax, food or optional activities. Confirm lane availability, shoe sizes and any holiday pricing before leaving.
Why choose it: friendly competition with an easy way to keep the outing together. The tradeoff: the lane price is only part of the day’s budget, especially if arcade games or extra activities become part of the plan.
Smyrna: pick the skating session first
Skate Center Smyrna, at 1505 Plaza Drive, lists a Saturday Family & Kids Skate from noon to 5 p.m. The posted admission is $10, with $3 skate rental. There is also a separate evening session, so check the session you actually want rather than assuming one ticket covers the entire day.
Four people skating with rentals would have a $52 admission-and-rental subtotal for the daytime session. That is not an all-in quote: confirm tax, non-skating adult charges and any extras. The rink also lists an arcade and snack bar, so decide on those allowances ahead of time.
Why choose it: music, movement and a shared activity. The tradeoff: different skating abilities can make a long session feel different for each person. Ask about rental sizing, skate assistance, supervision and access needs before promising the outing.
Nashville: let curiosity set the pace
Lane Motor Museum, at 702 Murfreesboro Pike, offers an indoor look at unusual vehicles, plus a children’s play area with toys and coloring. Its published Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the 11 a.m. vehicle demonstration is included with admission.
The museum’s 2026 rates list adults ages 18–64 at $15, seniors 65 and older at $10, ages 6–17 at $3, and children 5 and under free. Two adults and two children ages 6–17 would pay $36 in admission. On-site parking is free; food and optional purchases remain separate.
Why choose it: a different conversation starter for people who enjoy discovering how things work. The tradeoff: this is a museum-paced visit rather than an active play center. The exhibit area is wheelchair accessible, and loaner manual wheelchairs are first-come, first-served. Food and drinks stay off the museum floor; a snack area is available.
Build the whole outing before buying a ticket
Write down admission or lane cost, required rentals, tax and fees, food, travel or parking, and optional spending. Set an arcade or souvenir limit before you arrive. A lower advertised admission price does not necessarily mean a lower total.
Then choose a realistic start time, a meal plan and a time to head home. Confirm the current session, availability and any age, height, supervision or accessibility requirements directly with the venue. If weather makes the drive unsafe, save the outing for another day; an indoor destination still requires a safe trip.
A small house-hunting takeaway
If you are also comparing places to live, notice the routes you would actually repeat. How did the drive fit your day? Could you combine a favorite activity with an ordinary errand? Use your own routines to build a location checklist, then evaluate individual homes against that list.
